• First of all, congratulations on the plugin; I’m very happy with the current solution.

However, I’d like to highlight one point: ideally, we should have the option to choose formats other than flag icons for language selection.

Flags are a poor choice for several reasons. In my case, for instance, I work in Brazil, and it’s common for our sites to be accessed by Spanish-speaking users from various South American countries. But how do you pick just one to represent a language shared by all of them? The Spanish flag doesn’t represent those other countries. Furthermore, Spanish isn’t the only language spoken in Spain. This topic has been widely discussed in the UX design community, but this article summarizes the issue well: https://uxplanet.org/what-is-wrong-with-flag-icons-for-languages-according-to-ux-designers-ef7340423b82

Could you adjust the plugin to allow us to use text or add a custom icon for each language? That would ensure adherence to best practices and look much more elegant.

    Hi,

There are multiple widget options available you can choose from, you can also hide the flags if needed using CSS.

If you describe how you would like the language selector to look, I’ll try to suggest.

    Thanks! 🙂
