The name used for generating the avatar should be taken from the Display Name, not the First Name.

Also, the suggested/default avatars should be available directly in the WordPress admin panel, not only through a shortcode.

For WordPress’s default avatar options, please provide a local alternative so that Gravatar is not required.

Also, please remove the Gravatar link that appears when a user wants to change their profile picture, so the entire avatar system can work locally without redirecting users to Gravatar.

    Hi,

Thank you for the detailed feedback — all four points are addressed in version 1.0.4, which is now live:

    1. Initials now use the Display Name. The avatar initials are generated from the Display Name first; First/Last Name is only used as a fallback if the Display Name is empty.
    2. Preset avatars in wp-admin. The preset avatar grid (built-in presets plus any you’ve added in Settings → Avatar → Preset Avatars) is now shown directly on the user profile page in wp-admin, not only through the [rsava_avatar_form] shortcode.
    3. Local default avatar option. A new “Local (no Gravatar)” choice has been added to Settings → Discussion → Default Avatar. When selected, it’s used as the fallback avatar for guests/unmatched emails, rendered locally — no request to Gravatar’s servers.
    4. Gravatar link removed. The “You can change your profile picture on Gravatar” link under the profile picture field on the user profile page has been removed and replaced with the plugin’s own local upload/preset UI.

Please update to 1.0.4 and let me know if you run into any issues.

    Thanks again for reporting this!
