We’ve used this plugin for a while, for occasional student purchases. Now, right as the school year starts, it isn’t working? Is this a change, upgrade, demand for payment? Some new incompatibility? Very upsetting to the students who of course waited till the last minute to order. Tried adding product links to the plug-in setup, still just getting error message on order confirmations.

    Hi @karenchristenze,

Thanks for reaching out, and I understand the frustration — timing-wise, there’s never a good moment for things to break, and the start of the school year is especially stressful.

I want to reassure you upfront: there’s been no change to pricing, no paywall, and no intentional shift in how the plugin works. PDF Ink Lite (fka WaterWoo PDF) remains free. Whatever’s happening is probably a technical issue we can troubleshoot together.

That said, I’ve been maintaining this plugin voluntarily for over a decade, and I rely on users providing clear, actionable information so I can help. The post you submitted doesn’t give me enough to work with. To move forward efficiently, I’ll need:

    • The exact error message on order confirmations (a screenshot or copy-pasted text)
    • Your WooCommerce and WordPress versions
    • Which version of WaterWoo PDF you have installed
    • Whether this affects all orders or only specific products/file types
    • What settings relate to the issue, and how they are set in the settings panel

I’ve also written up a quick guide on what makes for a useful support request — please review it before replying: 👉 Before You Post: 2026 Support Tips

If you suspect a recent update caused this and need an immediate fix, you can roll back to a previous version while we investigate: 👉 WaterWoo PDF – Advanced Downloads (scroll low)

Like all the plugins here in the WP repo, PDF Ink Lite is a volunteer project. I’m happy to help when I receive the information needed to diagnose issues. Once you provide those details, I’ll prioritize getting this sorted for you.

    Looking forward to your reply!

We have been using PDF Lite, and had made no changes except allowing for regular Woocommerce updates. I was able to get the stamper working yesterday. The instructions are not as clear as they could be, but I found that we now have to list all the individual URLs in a field we never before used. In the past all product PDFs were automatically stamped. I am thinking of switching to Siteground’s file management system but at least the students are able to get their ebooks! Thank you for the kind message and reminder about sending queries to this forum. Best, Karen.

Things can definitely change without your awareness. One major change that can happen in the background is PHP version updates, another can be your host adding caching layers.

It should be that if the very first checkbox “Enable Watermarking” is checked, and the next field and third checkbox are left empty, all your files will be stamped (or attempted). Your issue sounds maybe like a caching error, and seems like if you set them like I just said and re-saved your settings, cleared all caches (esp. object caches) it should work. Finding a difficult hack that works for now isn’t really a solution.

That said, we didn’t receive any information from you with which to help, so do you wish to proceed with support? If not, please close your ticket. Thank you!
