Suddenly I can’t login. I get the message “ERROR: The password you entered for the username XXXX is incorrect. Lost your password?” and when I click on “Lost your password?” I get no email sent to me from WP.

I have: Deactivated Theme (wouldn’t default to default theme), disabled plugins, did Through FTP, used the Emergency Password Reset Script, uploaded a new wp-login.php file, edited Users table, changed… no luck.

Server info: Linux server, OS: Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS; Panel version 11.0.9 Update #17

WP version 3.5.1

All browsers have the same issue and also Windows 7.

Any ideas? Maybe take the site down then up again?

If you’re not getting the reset password email, you may have been hacked.

Double check that you’re using the right email address, then you’ll probably have to refer to some of WordPress’ many resources for getting back in.

There may be a problem with one of your plugins. I had this happen to me.

Try resetting the entire plugin folder:

1. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
2. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
3. Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
4. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

Thanks for getting back to me everybody!

All sorted now – solution number one here (I tried this but didn’t do the function bit.). Lesson learned: try every solution three times when it doesn’t work…
