“Subscriber not found” for exisiting user

Hey there,
we are testing newsletter since some weeks and we have a problem now. It worked some days ago.

Now I’m having problems for users double-opting to a list.
(Using WordPress 5.8 and Newsletter 7.2.2)

Once I click the URL in the email, a page is displayed saying
“Subscriber not found
Text below only visibile to administrators
Already deleted or using the wrong subscriber key in the URL”

The user definitely still exists (was not deleted). Any ideas what it could be?`
The code used is
“If you feel you received this e-mail by mistake or wish to unsubscribe,
a href=”{unsubscription_confirm_url};” please click here. /a”

(I left the the < and > brackets out as otherwise the forum shows the link and not the html code)
