Hi. I took a look at your 1.4.0 BadgeOS Update change log and see that there is a new feature added, where we can allow users to moderate submissions without granting them full access to the BadgeOS administration.

How does this work? How do I assign the role to the user and where do they see the list of submissions (do I set up a page with shortcode)?

    Thanks.

The primary settings will be in your BadgeOS settings page, that way you can tweak what roles should be allowed/used. The actual role assignment per user is still going to be done via their profile editor, and is nothing custom from us. The submissions will be viewed from the same menus that your admins use, including the frontend buttons. Not a whole lot to configure, really.

Hi. I have tried out the following roles with a sample user: author and editor. When I adjust the settings in BadgeOS to “minimum role to administer submissions/nominations to either author or editor and then change the user’s profile to either author or editor, they still do not have access (they have a dashboard, but not access to submissions/nominations). When accessing submissions or nominations on the backend via BadgeOS menu, it says “you do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

    Am I missing something here?

    Thanks.

Just to be certain before I try to dive in and see if I can recreate locally, are you on the latest version of the plugin?

If I can’t recreate myself, I will probably need to go into your admin to get a better look at things. If necessary, we can wait until any ongoing things have wrapped up. Not sure if this is something you absolutely need right now, and is more some feedback from tinkering.

    Hello.

This is a different site all together — I am preparing for a fall class with students. There are no students on the site right now, so I have no issues with you taking a look around. And the plugin is the latest version with the latest version of WP.

I hope to have teacher users in the space approving badge submissions and nominations. It would be ideal to have the teachers as “authors” with limited access to the dashboard items.

If it is easiest to poke around on my site, let me know and I can email you login credentials.

Thank you– you are always so responsive!
    Best,
    Sarah

FTP credentials if you could as well, to help me debug what may be going on, but understandable if you can’t do that much.

    *edit*

Redacted my previous reply after I remembered some details.

This should work for authors/editors from the frontend of the website, but not from the admin. The reason for this is because of how Custom Post Types work and are registered, and it’s not something we’ve managed to get a workaround for.

If you could please, have your editor person try it from the frontend and check the resulting status in the WP Admin via an admin account.

Not 100% perfect, but for the time being, should get the job done.

Thanks, Michael. I always appreciate the time you spend and how responsive you are. I will check out the front end. Just to make sure I am approaching the front end correctly, the submissions will be seen on the bottom of the posts (quests/activites — whatever we call them) OR, on a page called “submissions” that has a shortcode that pulls it all in one page. Will both of these options work for the front end suggestion above?

    Thanks again.
    Best,
    Sarah

I know for sure that I saw them on a page that used the shortcode. I’d need to double check and appreciate any double checking you could do for the buttons at the bottom of the single achievement links. If they’re on both, test both and let us know. If it only works half the time, then we need to check on some things for the “why”

Got it. I will check it out over the next few days.

Frontend is working. I also just blocked the editor/authors from accessing the dashboard at all with another plugin (since I don’t want them playing with Pages content anyways.).

So we’re all good now? πŸ™‚

    Yes. On frontend only. Thanks.
