• Hello,
Trying to install WP in a subfolder while keeping my old html site live… I’m having a heck of a time with it. I’ve followed instructions per the codex.
    My main website is http://www.haus-arch.com
    and I’m trying to setup a new site in a /wp subfolder > http://www.haus-arch.com/wp
When I activate the “stock” themes I have no issues but when I install a theme I’ve purchased I get sent to my main site. Any attempt to go to /wp or /wp/admin routes me automatically back to the main site. I’ve asked them for help and they tell me it’s an issue on my end.
When I COPY (not move) the index.php and .htaccess over to the root, my main site is overwritten by the wordpress stuff which is exactly what I’m trying not to do.
I’m not very savvy in this stuff so I’m struggling a bit. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you,
    HAUS

  • I’m sorry but as you appear to be using a commercial theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s developer/vendor. We do not have access to, nor do we support, commercial products here.

I sought help from them and they weren’t helpful at all. They said it was my host issue.
Is it possible that I set can set up with a non-commercial theme?

You can use any theme at any time. If the site works with the default Twenty Fifteen theme, then it pretty much confirms that this is a theme-specific issue and you need to get back onto the theme’s vendors.

That’s exactly what I thought but they claimed they it worked on their end so it must be my problem…and of course it’s not covered under their service agreement… so I’m back to square one. 😐
I’m going to work on doing a fresh install of WP and confirming that twenty fifteen does in fact work.
    Thank you for help esmi

    Confirmed: Twenty Fifteen theme works.

Not sure if this post is still live but I have wordpress installed in /wp (as stated above) and the twenty fifteen theme is activated. When i go to the haus-arch.com/wp I get a 404. It appears that it’s looking in the root for some of the files? Any way to keep my html site live while I mess with the wp install and not have it looking at the root?
