Subdomains on subfolder installation

I would like to install a fresh copy of WordPress Multisite, and create a network of sites based on subdomains. I think that I would like to go for a subfolder installation (I already have one like this, and for some reason, I think it is better). Is it a good idea? I mean going for subfolder installation and using a domain mapping plugin to direct users to subdomains of the root site.
