Sub Categories in 3 Columns

I want to display 6 sub categories of a specific category “xxx” in 3 columns + 2 rows when this category link is clicked. These sub categories will have only category title, category description. I’m new to WordPress, so please a quick help will be appreciated…i’m using v.2.8.
