strong and em on posts get dropped

When adding multiple strong or em character definitions on posts the closing pair gets dropped.

For example
Extend a volume group
will get converted to
Extend a volume group
when a save is done. This makes all remaining text in the post get formatted as well.

This seems to be an intermitant problem, and I have seen that it will work correctly for half of a post and stop working for the other half of the post.
