    Hi.

    Site is http://www.frontlineanimalremoval.com

Using a child theme of twenty eleven.

Not very knowledgeable, but have set up site and its works ok for us. Have always found answers to how tos and questions and all is much appreciated.

Here is latest problem which I can’t seem to find solution to.

Symptoms started when I changed the menu. Theme supports one menu. “Under the “Animal Removal Info” tab, I deleted “mole trapping”. (We are no longer marketing this service”

On the static front page, “Home” the menu change will not take effect. It has taken effect on all other pages. For example, if I navigate to “Blog” and then use the menu from that page, “Mole Trapping” does not appear. So the change is throughout except for static frontpage.

Trying to resolve my issue, I turned all the plugins off and cleared the cache. No help.

I also tried switching themes to see what that would do. This unearthed another oddity.

When I try to switch themes, I get a spinning wheel for the preview. Leaving it switched to a new theme, I go back to the dashboard and confirm I have switched themes. Then I view site and static front page “home” has not changed. But, like the menu issue, the theme is being applied throughout every other post and page on the site.

Why is my static front page “Home” not accepting menu changes or theme changes?

Anything fairly easy I am missing?

Any suggestions on what went wrong or how to fix it?
I haven’t tinkered (I swear) under the hood, as I am not very knowledgeable.

  • The page must be cached! Do you have any caching plugins installed? Flush the cache if you do (should be an option in the plugin).

    The page header says:

    Last-Modified Sat, 02 May 2015 12:49:15 GMT

I’d also check with your hosting company and see if they have any server side caching going on.

Thanks for the reply. I’m looking into it.

    I flushed the cache.

    I deleted the caching plug-in.

I checked with the Hosting company: they state no server side caching.

    Looking for any more suggestions.

To reiterate my problem, any change I tried to make was not taking effect on the front static page home. This included menu changes, theme changes, mobile display, widget updates. Any changes I would make would be fine through the rest of the site-all pages and posts.

My host helped me solve the issue.

In my public html files, there was an “index.html” and an “index.php” that were in conflict. The index.html file was covering the index.php file. The helper at my host simply renamed index.html to “index.html.old” and the conflict no longer existed.

I don’t know how the conflict came to be nor do I understand the difference between and index.html and index.php

But, I am glad James at JustHost does.

The difference is the priority in which the files are loaded. The server will always load an .html file over a .php file of the same name. Please mark it resolved in the right side bar here.
