I use WPvivid Backup plugin to run a staging site. It allows me to update the staging site to be on parity with production site, but when I do these updates (and exclude the Cowboy MCP plugin file) I am unable to continue to use the MCP connection, I get an OAuth error. I have to uninstall plugin, reinstall plugin then in chatgpt, remove plugin, and re-add a custom plugin on chatgpt. Same thing has happened on Claude. Any ideas?

@amexbabushka Thanks for the detailed report, and sorry for the trouble. I was able to reproduce it: when WPvivid pushes production over staging, staging loses its record of them even though the plugin files are excluded. That’s why only a full remove-and-re-add worked.

Version 1.6.8 fixes this. Please update the plugin on the staging site, then do this once for each connector:
    1. In wp-admin, go to Settings > Cowboy MCP > Connection and pick the app (ChatGPT or Claude). At the top of its panel, click Enable for 30 minutes.
    2. In ChatGPT or Claude, click Reconnect on your existing connector.
    3. You’ll land on the site’s approval page. It will say the site has no record of this app — that’s expected after the database restore. Choose the access level and click Approve.

No uninstalling and no re-adding the connector is needed now (you may need to do it once after you upgrade to 1.6.8). After each future staging refresh, repeat the same three steps: Enable, Reconnect, Approve.

If anything doesn’t behave as described, please paste the report from the Connection Doctor.
