SSL Cert Install Affecting Login

Hello,
I have a website where we added an SSL certificate.

After the Cert was activated by my host, I logged into the site under http:// and changed Settings > General adding https in place of http for site url and wordpress url. This forced me to log in again and I was unable to get back in. I read how to access the site via phpMyAdmin and to change the settings back in the database, as described: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

I found if I login at http:// it will work; however I want the login to work with https://. I plan to add code to the htaccess file that will force the site to render in https:// only.

What have I missed?
