Split Widget?

Your widget may be exactly what I’m looking for but I have a quick question about it.

Is there a way to split the output so that it’s in two columns, with the most recent post title with thumbnail in the category showing up at the top left of the widget and the older post showing up in the bottom right? So if there are 10 posts, there’d be 5 per column.

I need to put this widget in a custom widget position rather than in the sidebar and I don’t want to have the thumbnail and title spread out like that.
