I’m having trouble installing this plugin. Following the instructions, I uploaded the plugin to my plugins directory. I created a “spell-plugin” folder and copied all the remaining files into it. I chmod that same folder to 755 and then to 666, but I’m still getting this message:

Warning: main(/hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog_test/wp-content/spell-plugin/spellInclude.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog_test/wp-content/plugins/spell-plugin.php on line 36

Warning: main(/hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog_test/wp-content/spell-plugin/spellInclude.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog_test/wp-content/plugins/spell-plugin.php on line 36

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '/hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog_test/wp-content/spell-plugin/spellInclude.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /hsphere/local/home/galen5/familywebwatch.com/blog_test/wp-content/plugins/spell-plugin.php on line 36

    What can I do?

Oh yeah, that message is coming up when I try to access my Plugins panel.

I created a “spell-plugin” folder and copied all the remaining files into it.

Where did you create this folder? If it’s not in wp-content, that’s likely the issue.

    I’m such a moron. 😛

Okay, I moved it to the correct folder this time, but when I access the Options > SpellChecker panel I get a message telling me to chmod the spell-plugin directory to 755, but it is already 755.

To be clearer, this is the message I’m getting on the panel:

FATAL: The temporary directory you specified is not writeable from the Apache task. Either select a different temporary directory (like "/tmp") or make the directory you specified writable by the Apache task (chmod 755 the directory).

FATAL: You forgot to make the personal dictionary directory writable. Please read the install instructions and chmod this folder to provide write privileges to the Apache task.

I’m not much on chmod-ing, but I can tell you that even when it is set to 755 it gives me that message. When I change it to 666, it gives me a “permission denied” message instead of the panel.

    Any thoughts?

    I appreciate your help ColdForged.

Did you check to make sure that any folders INSIDE the spell-plugin folder are also 755 – like the temporary and personal dictionary ones? Sometimes chmod’ing the main folder won’t affect the internal ones.

I just looked. There are no other folders inside that one. 🙁

Hmm. The docs didn’t tell you to make those folders anywhere?

Well, as shown above, I missed the instruction on where to put the spell-plugin folder. But I’ve reviewed the instructions a few more times, and I don’t see any other requirement to make another directory, although it does state that I could make one if I wanted to. I just chose not to because it was optional.

I should just kill that warning :). Read this and see if it helps.

Thanks again, ColdForged. Changing it to 777 helped get me past the error message. Now I’m off to insert the code to have it show up in my comments form. 🙂

Good news, glad it’s working for you.
