Some weeks ago, I turned off comments in posts older than 7 days. That helped cut down on spam. I still kept getting some through various older posts though, and finally went through and deleted those as well. Now I’m getting spam through a post that has comments turned off AND is deleted. How is this possible? How can I make it stop?

I’m sorry, must be too early, because I don’t understand how that would help? The comments are already marked as spam, but there’s no post for them to be posted to. My spam folder gets about 100 a day on a post that is no longer there. Doesn’t that mean they’re coming in through another way?

Yes – they are accessing comments.php directly. Which is exactly what this plugin tries to stop.
