Your WordPress installation is sending the “New comment” notices to random registered users? Or maybe the notice is sent to the person who posted the comment? That’s odd.
You listed using 3.1.4 so you must have uploaded new files recently but it wouldn’t hurt to re-upload them. Does the problem occur with plugins disabled?
It’s sending the comment email to the authors of the posts so I’ve changed their status from “author” to “subscriber”.
The Akismet plugin was disabled until I activated it this morning.
The WP-SpamFree plugin was already enabled and in use.
I’m hoping changing the user status and activating akismet will stop the problem. Is there anything else you think I should do?
Thanks so much for helping.
It’s happening because the author of the post gets the emails (and I think also the webmaster of the site, but that may JUST be a MultiSite setting).
There may be a plugin to change that behavior.
I’m the webmaster of the site and I get all the comments, too. I’ve had a look at the plugins and installed this one http://kau-boys.de/300/wordpress/kau-boys-comment-notification-plugin?lang=en
It reckons it’ll send comments only to me as the administrator of the site. Please let me know if you’ve heard anything bad about it. It got 5 stars, but that’s only from one rating.

I used to receive all the comments to be approved emails, but now the people people who contributed articles to the site (registered as users) are being sent them. Their email addresses are not visible on the site. Why is this happening and what can I do about it?
I’ve just installed akismet.
