Spam blocking necessary if login required?

    Our new WordPress installation is configured to require login in order to post comments. And thanks to the wpDirAuth plugin, to login one must have an account in our LDAP server.

    So, given that the list of potential comment posters is restricted to people with LDAP accounts, is it necessary to take further action (such as Akismet or other plugins) to block spam comments?

    I’m just looking for some opinions to either confirm my thoughts or to offer something new for me to consider. I’ve been thinking that we don’t need any additional measures to block spam comments because if a user starts filling the blogs with junk, we’ll be able to track them by their login ID and ask them to stop. This is our first WordPress installation though, so there might be something we’re overlooking.

    your problem won’t be human spammers, but the spam ‘bots – eventually they will find you – it’s just the way it is these days
