I have noticed that a space is inserted after the footnote reference number when it is displayed in a post. This poses a problem if the footnote is at the end of a sentence but is before a period.

Example: This is a sentence[ref]some text[/ref]. (this is how I have formatted a footnote that comes just before a period). But the generated reference number displays as [1] . (notice the space before the period).

Is there a way to eliminate the space after the reference numbers?

    Thanks!

Well, perhaps this isn’t an issue after all. According to The Chicago Manual of Style:

“A note number should generally be placed at the end of a sentence or at the end of a clause. The number normally follows a quotation (whether it is run into the text or set as an extract). Relative to other punctuation, the number follows any punctuation mark except for the dash, which it precedes.”

That being the case, the remaining space may not be a problem since there is normally a space after a period at the end of sentence. I’ll just have to ensure that my clients properly place the footnote after the periods.

I’m marking this as resolved since it wasn’t actually a problem with the plugin but was just a misunderstanding on where the footnote numbers should appear in relation to the end of a sentence.
