Having the same problem. Social Media Icons disappeared and there doesn’t seem to be a place anymore to update Social Media links.

Hi there,
In the latest version of the theme we have changed the Sparkling theme options to theme customizer as a recommendation of WordPress.org which is now must to use so we have also changed how the social icons work.
To display social icons on your site you have to follow the following steps :
1. Create a menu like any other menu.
2. Use the correct urls in the menu items, so for twitter it must be twitter.com for facebook it must be facebook.com. Otherwise URLs won’t get recognized and you will get squares without icons.
3. Set theme location for this menu as “Social Links”
