SMTP Authentication for registration

I recently setup a new install of WordPress and found out that when users were registering, they were getting their registration email. So I changed the php settings (php.ini) to point to my ISP’s smtp server. But to reduce spam, like many other ISPs/servers, my ISP’s smtp server requires me to be authenticated in order to send mail.
Where can I put in my username and password for sending mail through my ISP’s server for use in WordPress?
