Hi,

Would it be possible to use the smart backspace function available in Typed.js?

Sorry for the delay, smart backspacing is enabled by default. All it does is prevent duplicated strings from being typed more than once, you can disable it by adding smartBackspace=false to the shortcode.
The fiddle below has it disabled:
