• Hello,

I know only enough about WP to change the words on my web page. Someone else developed it. I noticed that the first person to visit my web page in several hours has to wait a about 10 seconds for the page to load up. Anyone else after this only waits about 2 seconds. I remoted to other computers on different ISPs to verify this – as long as someone else has gone to the site recently it loads up right away.

I’ve read a few things to check however I’m not sure if they apply as none of them seem to mention first visit – they all say slow web site – which I’m guessing is consistent even after the first visit.

Can you tell me what things you think it is likely to be?

It sounds like your caching plugin is working and that the first person to visit after the cache-clearing time has to wait for the cache to rebuild. What caching plugin are you using?

Thanks! I’ll ask the developer and find out for you. So knowing absolutely nothing about plugins – if my site is unlikely to change much other than minor changes every couple of months – do some plugins let you have it hold the cache longer so the first person on my site each day doesn’t have to wait too long? Or is that somehow controlled by the web hosting company?
