Slow Load Syndrome

    All of my post pages call another call on another url in the last step of their loading process.

    Here is a screenshot of the test from gtmetrix.
    I have highlighted the areas in question and added notes and questions to the image.

    Is this normal?
    Is it something I could or should stop?

    Any help – information – hints – clues – will be appreciated.

    That’s not an issue. It’s just normal processing of permalinks.

    Are you using any caching plugins? I use “AutOptimize” and “Comet Cache” on most sites. Together they really improve things.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    I’m on IIS7 and caching through the server.
    I’ve tried plugins but don’t have much success.
    I don’t think IIS is not really cut out for WP and it can be temperamental but it’s all I have.

    Any idea what could be done to speed this particular step?
    Areas that I could – should look into?

    There’s 3.27 seconds time to first byte (TTFB) when accessing your page. That indicates a slow server (or database server), but can also be due to a slow theme. This is where the two plugins I mentioned would really help. It also takes 1.3 seconds just to download your style sheet! Similarly, a 24K image takes 2.7 seconds to download.

    Where are you hosting this? Is the network there slow? It looks like your server is on “rr.com”. Is this something you’re running in your house?

    I’d install those two plugins PLUS Jetpack and enable the “photon” CDN service there to move the images off your very slow server and onto WordPress’ own network.

    Yes, I’m hosting on a home PC running windows server 2008.
    I’m also running my own mysq1 server and a shoutcast radio server on this box too.
    lol

    I know I know. It’s too much. But I want to see how the site flys before I make any real investment.

    Do you think adding in an old pc as a mysql server would make a ‘great’ difference?

    What kind of difference do you think paid hosting could make?
    Cut page load by 1/2 ? 1/4 ? Better?

    Moving to a commercial host (see the “hosting” link, above) or setting up your own cloud server (on a place like Digital Ocean) will improve speeds noticeably.

    WoW!
    Your 2 plugins are constantly shaving 5 to 7 seconds off my larger pages and my time to first byte has dropped from seconds (sometimes 3+) to milliseconds.
