• I have found that the slideshow takes and extended amount of time to load sometimes over a minute. I have reviewed some other post that suggest that the number of and size of galleries can have an impact on your SQL database. Sometimes it can take a minute or more for the slideshow to load. The slideshow is the only part of the web site that I find slow. I have approximately 15 galleries and some of them have 500+ photos in them. My hosting provider Netfirms is telling me that our site has too much content and that is the reason we are having these issues. Netfirms is suggesting that I upgrade from shared hosting to dedicated hosting. Has perilously stated the slideshow is the only thing that is slow on the site. I do not believe my image sizes are too big for example 650 photos is 45MB. As a troubleshooting step I made a smaller gallery with approximately 230 image and I still had the same pperfromance issues. Netfirms has suggested remove some of the photos to halp improve performance and reduce the over all size of the site. 90% of the content on our site is the photos.

To see the slow performance of the slideshow please vist the following link http://www.windsorclippers.com/album-2014/nggallery/2014/playoffsrd1gm3vswallaceburg/slideshow (Please note it may take a minute or longer to load.

I am currently running WordPress 4.11 and Nextgenn 2.0.77

Any feedback or assistance would be greatly appreciated

@gducharme – The Basic Slideshow loads all of the images before it starts to display them … for large galleries this can be time consuming and a resource issue, especially on some hosting services with “smaller” environments (although I cannot speak to Netfirms specifics, this is a general issue).

I would suggest testing with a small gallery display of 20 images or so in a slideshow … that would be a more realistic comparison test.

I have done some testing and a slideshow of 20 photo loads rather quickly. Some of the slideshows have been on our web site for a number of years and we have not added to them. We have never experienced the slow performance until now. We have had a number of issues to troubleshoot with this plug in is it possible that one of the setting were changed that is effecting the performance. Is there a setting or type of slideshow that does not require that the images load in the background before playing.

@gducharme – There is nothing in the Basic Slideshow that provides an option for “lazy-loading” at this time … you are welcome to suggest it as a Feature Request here: http://nextgen-gallery.com/feature-voting/

    Thanks!
