• Hello – I’m still new to SEO and host language so I’m not sure if I’m asking this right.

I’m in WordPress 3.4 and I’ve tried to create an XML sitemap with both Yoast and Google XML sitemaps. Google XML creates a 404 error page for the sitemap (played with it sever times and nothing) and Yoast created an HTML sitemap. I’ve tried a third plugin (can’t remember the name) but it only resulted in a blank page. On the host side, I have other sites hosted on the same server that are able to generate sitemaps so I’m not sure if it’s the way WordPress was installed for this particular website or if that’s even possible. It seems like the issue is a permissions issue but I’m not even sure what would stop it on the server end since other sites on that host don’t have this issue.

I’ve tried deactivating plugins, etc. to get this to work.

I’m kind of at a loss on what to do here. My site isn’t been crawled completely because of this.

website is [one word] dogsdayout seattle [dot] com sitemap is /sitemap-main.xml

Could it be a php.4 vs php.5 issue?

    Thank You

  • If you are using the BWP Google XML Sitemaps plugin, use FTP to see if there is anything in the cache folder located here: /wp-content/plugins/bwp-google-xml-sitemaps/cache/. If there is nothing in that directory, you may need to set the permission level on the cache directory to 777.
