Hello,
To Set you blog page go to Settings => Reading => Front page displays.
You will see a radio button to select “A static page”.
Use the drop down next to “Posts page” to select the page you want to use for your blog.
As far as changing the sidebar, what theme are you using? Please send a link to the theme and the website it is being used on.

I have the part figured out with setting the static page and blog figured out.
I cant provide a link as the site is not online, im trying to just layout things still to be sure I will be able to do it.
Basically, what im after is, having a wp website(as a website)got that part but have a seperate blog also in it without having the blog catagories on my site.
I think I read so much that at this point I confused myself too much.
Hopefully that makes sense and thanks again for any help.
You can do what you want — that’s how WP is designed — to be very flexible — including making customized page or post templates that can look however you want. The blog categories won’t show up on any pages unless you want to put them there. You can use the Menu section (under appearance in the dashboard) to set up the menu however you want. Are you just trying to make a different sidebar show up on your blog pages?
Are you using a downloadable child theme, or is it custom?

On the bottom of the sidebar is the catagories. I only want this section to show on the blog page and cat pages. Not on all the regular pages.
I look to see how to make them not visable in the sidebar on other pages but couldnt find it.

I ended up accomplishing it using a plugin called “widget context” so I was able to hide it from the pages I needed. Unsure if it does it properly, but seems to do what I was after.
