    Dear comunity,

I need somebody to bring back a site of mine. I have been searching the forum, but could not find exactly what would help me and now I am running out of time.
Both, page and backend are down. Trying to enter I get this in both cases:
    “Not Found
The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.”
What I did, before it happend: I was working with mailpoet when out of the blue nothing worked anymore. This plugin had issues before but worked fine after reinstall.
What I did to try to resolve this:
    – I rewrote the .htaccess – no change.
    – I loaded a backup of a few hours ago via ftp – no change, so it might be something with the database.

As the site is down in the middle of a promotion week for our offers and I am offline for most of the weekend I am doning something foolish now and let my pants down 🙂 :
    Here is my access:

    [Credentials redacted]

If you need access to the database let me konw.

    Thanks for any hlep
    Boris

    Hi,

I’ve redacted your login credentials, but I highly recommend you change them as soon as possible as they’ve now been out in the wild for over an hour.

As for your site, it sounds more like you are missing some core files, the easiest fix to this is to just download a fresh set of files from WordPress.org and upload them, this won’t modify your site in any way as it’s just the core files.

    Hi Marius,

    thanks for your help.
I made the ftp entrence only for this purpose and it will be closed a.s.a.p. But I have a backup, so feel free to mess arround :-).
I uploaded the latest corefiles now, but there is no change.

Any idea, where to go next?

    Pleeese…
I am desperate. I am more than willing to pay for help.

There is only free support here. For paid support you would need to post a request in: http://jobs.wordpress.net/

Given your original issue, you would normally log in to the site through FTP and reset either all the plugins, or perhaps just the one you were working with – Mailpoet. Resetting would mean changing the plugin directory name to something like: plugins/mailpoet.hold.

As you mention you have restored the site files, did you also restore the database relevant to that backup?

    Hi Barnez,
Thanks for your clarification. I will have a look at jobs.wordpress.
I did not do a backup of the database manualy and so I do not have one that works for me. The site is hosted by strato in Berlin. Usualy they do backups automaticly but their BackupControl is out of control saying not available. I just wrote to them to tell me if they have made backups anyway, but have no answer yet.
Next thing I will do is put the plugins on hold. Lets see what that will do.

All plugins on hold – no difference.

Just found a way to get via ssh to the backups 🙂

    I see.
One other thing you can try is to install a default wordpress theme (eg twenty-fifteen) AND have ALL the plugins set to plugins.hold – so the whole plugins directory: /wp-content/plugins.hold/.

If this doesn’t help then you may be left with waiting until your hosts respond and are able to provide you with or carry out a full files and database restore to a known working condition, or enlisting some professional help.

Actually, it looks more like your host might be pointed at the wrong location, there doesn’t seem to be any WordPress related files on THE url

@marius I welcome your input here as my troubleshooting has its limitations 🙂

    …and that did not help.

    Hi,

It still seems like there are no files on the page your domain is pointing at, unless it’s a site other than the one in your profile?

    (@boris-goldammer)

Oh that was a perfect hint. I must have moved the site by accident via ftp in a subfolder with a name that made sense to me, so I did not notice. I moved it back and now I have the white sreen of deth, but just to see a change is encouraging. 🙂

White screen is a great step in the right direction, at that point you should be able to see something in your error logs (white screens always lead to error outputs)

    Thread Starter Boris Goldammer

    (@boris-goldammer)

Fine, I did not know. Here is the error. I have it in the german version, so I translated it. If you need it exactly you will have to go on http://www.visionautic.org and see yourself.

    Timestamp: 02/15/15 13:39:32
Error: The character encoding of the HTML document has not been declared. The document is presented in some browser configurations with garbled text when the document contains characters outside the US – ASCII range. The character encoding of the page must be declared in the document or transfer protocol.

Do you know where to go next?
