    i forgot to mention when there is more than one post on the page the layout is fine, see: http://test.tuscorlloyds.com/tuscornews//afghanistan/
    I think there is an extra <div> tag being generated somewhere that breaks the layout when there is only one post on a page

    I’d take a look here and here, first. You have some minor validation errors that shouldn’t really effect your layout but are easy to fix and a few major ones that could contribute to your problem. Its going to be hard to get consistent results until you clean those up.

    How do you know that index.php is being used instead of single.php or category.php? I can’t really work that out from my end.
