thats NOT the right advice. In fact, what you just suggested is exacttly why this page:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL
exists. To help people that have done what you just suggested.
rmo120, do NOT follow nasa tech’s advice.
its nice that you want to help, nasa, but maybe you wanna doublecheck your info, if youre unsure of something 🙂
what are you talking about? wordpress settings – general allows you to choose the URL. If you could post pics i’ll provide screen shot
what am I talking about?
im telling you, who apparently does not know this, that those settings are NOT arbitrary, and unless your files are located in the proper place(s) .. changing those settings breaks things.
Perhaps you need to to a little fact checking, and seriously please dont pick a fight with me over this (my friendliness about this stops here) — Ive had a bad day, and I will have your head (as much as one can on a forum).
Flat out — youre wrong and you dont have a clue what youre telling anyone, if youre telling them that.
I third the motion; if you want WP in your root, i.e. mysite.com instead of mysite.com/wordpress/ , then follow either follow the directions in
http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
or delete the wordpress folder and reinstall WP in your top directory. Don’t simply change the URL in admin.
As majority say at the top,
http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory is the solution to this. I start giving to my wordpress installations a folder with custom name, as it help to keep it organize and improves security.

Thanks everyone…I can’t get to it at this moment because I’m dog-sitting, but I’ll see if it works for me.
