• I want to simplify the available options and interface for registered users, who as ‘Author’ should be able to:
    Update their profile.
Add new posts, and edit their existing ones.
    Edit their comments.

The standard interface is confusing, and by listing options which aren’t available (example: lists all posts, not just their own) likely to be frustrating.

I simplified with WPLite, but there’s still too much.

    Examples:
‘Manage’ and ‘comments’ still show all posts.
I want ‘Publish status’ to not include ‘pending review’. And ‘Keep this post private’ to not be available.

Suggestions appreciated. Please and thanks, etc.

  • WordPress 2.7 will be out in a couple of weeks, with a new control panel that might be easier for your Authors to use.

It is quite different then the current version, so I wouldn’t beat yourself up trying to make minor changes that probably won’t stick after you upgrade.

But if you do want such fine grained control over the interface, you’ll have to create a custom admin theme.

    Excellent. Thanks. I’ll wait.
