sidebar widgets in twety twelve

Hi

I’m running on a twenty twelve ( chid ) theme.

regarding the sidebar area’s for widgets. Apparently there is the “Main” sidebar that is used for posts , pages UNLESS you are using the static page template.

If you are using the optional “static page template” then instead of the “main sidebar” widget area, you will have access to the alternative 2 “first” and “second” page widgets.

All sounds fine. Except i appear to have access to the main sidebar instead of the 2 sidebars areas, EVEN though i thought i was setup to use the “static main page” template.

In the “themes / customise / static front page” menu options i have selected static front page and pointed to my home page.
In “settings / readings” menu i have clicked static page and selected my home page. Is there something else i need to do to activate the static front page template for this theme.

Or perhaps the sidebar area’s “getting confused” for some reason ?????

any ideas appreciated.

I’m sure the answer is something obvious that i can’t see even though its directly infront of me.
