Sidebar Running Through My Footer!

    I have the latest WordPress theme, ‘2013’, and my sidebar runs straight down through my footer area if the page content does not stretch further than it. Shouldn’t the page automatically extend to meet the sidebar requirements for space? How can I fix this?
