    One way i found to display a past event is targetting its exact date as a filter. You give it a try if it does the trick for you (where month and day indicate the date of an existing past event :

    [ai1ec exact_date=”month-day-2016″]

    I’m also looking for this feature. My client prefers a header with “Upcoming Events” and a section with “Past Events”.
