• My site admin retired and I need to maintain my site myself from now on. It is currently on version 4.1.31 and my understanding is that he skipped several updates. I have very little WordPress experience and I’m wondering if updating will jack up all kinds of things that I won’t know how to fix. Can anyone advise me (nicely) please? Thanks in advance.

In all probability, it will work in one big update. However, make a good backup first just in case.

    Steps:

    1. Make a backup that includes all files and the database. Put it someplace safe. (I like the plugin “backkwpup”).

    2. Update all your plugins.

    3. Update all your themes.

    4. Update WordPress.

You *may* get a message that you need a newer version of PHP. If so, do that, then continue from where you left off.

I will try – thank you, Steven!
