Shortcode [list-pages] etc not working

Hello,

I was looking for a shortcode to list pages and child pages and the WordPress support site shows the shortcodes needed to achieve this.

However hard I try it just does not work. I am in a page and put the shortcode in but when viewing the page I just see the shortcode text of

[list-pages]

[child-pages]

Do I need a plugin to achieve this or not. The support site does not mention any need for a plugin
