Short Urls with pages

Hi,

i have page ‘apple’ with parent ‘fruits’

default pearmalink would be http://host/fruits/apple

is it possible to change this to http://host/apple without losing the parent-child relationship?
i need to change the parmalink all the way up to the wordpress installation url
