    Hi –

I have a few questions around shipping. So I have set up a shipping zone for the U.S., and within that zone I have set up a Flat Rate shipping method – $5 for every order. However, I have a particular product that I would like to charge a different shipping charge; it’s a pretty small item so I don’t want to charge people $5 for shipping it. I’d like to charge $2.50. I’ve tried to create a shipping class for this and have assigned the product to this shipping class, but am seeing that the shipping charge comes out to the $2.50 plus the $5 flat rate – so $7.50. Is there a way I can charge $5 for all orders, but charge only $2.50 for a specific product ONLY IF A CUSTOMER JUST ORDERS THAT PRODUCT?

So if a customer orders Product A, they get charged the flat rate of 5$; if they order Product A and B (and B happens to be the small item), they get charged $5; if they ONLY order Product B, they get charged $2.50 rather than the flat rate of $5.

    Is this possible?

    Hi @jcostas81,

With Flat Rate I believe you’ll want to remove the base cost and only use shipping classes to setup rates.

Otherwise, the shipping class costs are added in addition to the base Flat Rate charge. You could make this simpler as well and just set the base cost to $2.50 and then use one shipping class for all your normal products. That class charges another $2.50. That way if they order normal products they’d get a $5 total charge, then if they order the small item it’s only $2.50. Doing it that way just uses one class instead of two.

Just to be sure to set the last option, Calculation type, appropriately as well for your store.
