Share Counts Zeroed Out after Updates
-
With Genesis and WordPress updates I noticed that the counts on my shares are all 0 now. For example, the current top post (regrets) was 25 the other day and now shows 0 … any thoughts?
Thanks

Client having same issue… http://www.drmargaretrutherford.com
Thanks for the report!
We’re aware of an issue with Facebook counts resetting to zero, which is due to a sudden change in Facebook’s API. We expect to patch the plugin on Monday to resolve this. If you’d prefer not to wait until then, you’re very welcome to test the development version here, which includes the fix for Facebook:
https://github.com/copyblogger/genesis-simple-share/archive/develop.zip
If you’re seeing other counts resetting to zero, that can be caused by a few things:
- Domain changes, such as changing the domain name, dropping the www from your domain, or switching from http → https or vice-versa;
- Blocking the social network APIs with plugins such as Ghostery, or private browsing mode in Firefox
- Restrictions imposed by your host (such as the open_basedir restriction detailed here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/lost-google-share-counts-after-hosting-migration?replies=3#post-8366154 ). It’s worth reviewing your logs and checking with your host in this case.
If you need further help with this, it would be helpful to have:
– A link to a single example post where the count(s) has reset.
– The social network(s) that you believe to have reset.
– An idea of what you expect the counts to read. It’s really helpful for us to have one report per thread so that we can focus on solving each issue independently. If you’re not the original poster, please start a new topic with any additional details – thanks!
I’m getting the same issue.
In all my posts my facebook shares were reset to 0 – www-bemvestir.com.
I apreciate you could fix this with facebook next Monday. Thanks
Version 1.0.9 is now out – you should find this restores your Facebook share count.
I posted this in another thread on the same topic but thought I would post it here as well if that’s okay, just so people know that the update worked, at least in our case: Thank you, Nick. The update worked on our website and the Facebook share counts are showing again.
Thank you very much.

http://oakridgetoday.comThanks very much for the update, John – that’s great to hear. 🙂
The update fixed the issue on http://www.bemvestir.com.
Thanks for your fast support. All the best
I’ve installed the updated version, but my Facebook count is still coming up 0. Can you please assist. I’m not a tech person at all, but I do not believe I have any of the conditions you listed above
Here is an example:
http://theharriedmom.com/taste-of-summer-easy-no-pasta-zucchini-lasagna-recipe/
According to FB it has 150 Likes….
Thank you!
@debrarutt19 It looks like your site is caching an old version of the updated JavaScript file at http://theharriedmom.com/wp-content/plugins/genesis-simple-share/lib/sharrre/jquery.sharrre.min.js?ver=0.1.0.
Please could you clear any caching plugins or caching services provided by your host? You should find that solves things.
Same problem here. Just installed the upgraded plugin and cleared all caches, but none of my likes have returned – and on some of our pages, they exceed 1k, so it would be nice to have them back. Even the article I posted this morning shows 0. I’ve opened a ticket with Websynthesis but would appreciate any clues as to why the newly installed plugin isn’t pulling in the FB likes. Thanks. Website:
see http://floridahikes.com/florida-trail-app
Which had over 600 likes before this changeover of APIHi, floridahikes. I see 938 Facebook likes on http://floridahikes.com/florida-trail-app: http://d.pr/i/W0hM
If you still see a zero count there, it’s worth whitelisting the site in any browser privacy add-ons you use, or checking in another browser.
Thank you, Nick. Synethesis got back to me yesterday and said I should clear browser history, that did the trick after updating the plugin. Big sigh of relief. Appreciate your followup above.
Great to hear! Thanks for letting us know you resolved this.
Hi Nick
My facebook counts are still showing zero for all my browsers on all pages but my other social media counts are non-zero. I have v1.0.9 installed and all caches have been cleared on the site and cloudflare as well as my browsers.
Example: How I built my ultimate 25 pound bug out bag
Any ideas?
@graywolf It looks as though your site is still caching an older version of the plugin’s JavaScript file; I see the old Facebook share URL in the source at http://graywolfsurvival.com/wp-content/plugins/genesis-simple-share/lib/sharrre/jquery.sharrre.min.js?ver=0.1.0.
That URL should read
//graph.facebook.com/?id={url}&callback=?instead when the old file is no longer cached. You could try clearing all caching plugins again, as well as flushing the cache in CloudFlare if you’re using their caching features too.
You should see the share count update to around 16,000 once that’s corrected: https://graph.facebook.com/?id=http://graywolfsurvival.com/66545/how-to-build-ultimate-25-pound-bug-bag/
