setting up home page problems

I am trying to set up a home page as the standard homepage layout doesn’t suit my design. I am using storefront.

I have set up my home page but the featured category doesn’t show. How do I get them to show?

I have taken the following steps;

set up home as the front page in customise

Created a home page with the following shortcode
[products_limit=”12″ category=”featured”

I have set up a main featured category and selected some products to be showed as featured.

The products don’t show on the page. How can I correct this?

I am confused as the above works on another page.
