Setting in layout editor will not save

Hello.

Im trying to create a portfolio page where i have thumbnails of all my pages with the title below it… both of which link to that page. When i first generate the thumbnails, it displays the except and the ‘read more’ button. I go into the layout editor and remove the items i don’t want and add the ‘title with link’ and ‘thumbnail with grid’ items. as soon as i hit save the items revert back to what they were before. Ive also tried adding display:none to the CSS with the same results.

Any help, i’m so lost.
