    Hello,

    I’m having issues with http://toughgaffs.com which is hosted on GoDaddy.

    I managed to lock myself out last Thursday and got an error when I tried to reset the password by email. I found a useful video which walked me through changing my password by using phpMyAdmin. I acccessed the site, created and posted an entry. Then I deactivated the addthis plugin and installed and activated the sharethis plugin.

    Next morning I got the Server not found 500 error. I contacted Go Daddy who advised me to edit the Webconfig file to get a more detailed error message (http://help.godaddy.com/article/3430?) but when I add it the wp-config file, the error jsut changes to say that there is syntax error and it cannot parse past line 17 – where I had placed the suggested code.

    I’ve also deleted the sharethis plugin file directory but this has made no difference.

    Any help/advice gratefully recieved.

    Per their instructions, they want you to add the code to the web.config file, not the wp-config.php file.

    @kerrymg,

    Using the steps in the article you referenced will help you see the actual error behind the generic 500 error. The syntax error you referenced indicates there’s an issue with the code in that location.

    If you’re unfamiliar with repairing the code, you may consider reinstalling WordPress from scratch, to have a fresh working copy, then restore from your most recent backup.

    If you need any direction backing up your project, let us know, be happy to assist.

    Thanks GDHosting – I went for the full reinstall and it worked, all back up and running happily.

    I must say GoDaddy was fairly unhelpful. The first set of advice about altering the web-config file was useless as I’m not using Linux

    @kerrymg,

    Glad to hear you’re up and running again. Just to clarify, as James (MacManX) mentioned, the advice for altering a file was in reference to the web.config file and not wp-config.php. We do apologize for any confusion regarding this. Let us know if we can help out further!
