Server Crashed Site Suspended- php code stuck?
-
this afternoon our server suspended our site due abnormal traffic crashing the server. i ask the hosting company what could be the problem they said this:
“This can be a DOS attack on your website. But one thing that I noticed is that your PHP pages were being executed from a long time and appears to be stucked somewhere and the new requests are opening new pages but those pages were being stuck as you can see that there are how many
running processes on your website. You need to go through the code to make sure that it is not causing any such behaviour.”Can anyone help me to try to find where to look for the problem code?
I am running 2.0.4 version

There is no problem with the code. This is the usual response from a crappy host without the resources for shared servers.
Go somewhere else. Also, if you have a huge volume of visitors, try to install the wp-cache plugin:
http://mnm.uib.es/gallir/wp-cache-2/Thank you guy’s I think I recieved an unusual volume of visitors this afternoon – I will look over the logs to verify I have not EVER had a problem with WP coding so I expect your right a crappy host.
I will install the wp-cache plugin thanks for the tip moshu!
moshu; I tried to install the above plugin when I went to wp-admin to activate the plugin it gave me an internal error 500. I checked the logs and no we did not experience high traffic volume so something is wrong any ideas?
Here is the error s from the log

Your website pages are still getting stuck. Please look into it:
Boy, I have to agree, you need a better host. That’s about the most unprofessional assessment of an error/contact with a customer I’ve ever seen.
That is for certain! However, I must conceed when I try to open an archive post the post in part loads then stalls with the page loading. I still cannot access the admin section just a white screen I tried uploading a fresh index.php file but no change. If the php is getting stuck where would I look?
I don’t know. Since they can’t seem to articulate what they mean by “php getting stuck”, it’s a bit difficult to ascertain just exactly what they’re seeing and where one would need to look to start “unsticking” it (for want of a better description at this point).
I’m rather thinking they must mean some sort of loop condition. But without knowing what they’re actually seeing, and with no access to server logs, it’s very difficult to determine where to jump….
Have you asked them if they upgraded mysql, apache, or php before this occurred? While apache and php don’t seem problematic, a mysql upgrade to 5.+ might cause some problems.
I asked them to define “stuck” and to explain just what they where looking at I did get this from the server logs>

Thank you xinfo! I slept on it over night and this morning I was able to login to the admin. Everything is back to normal. Overnight the server sent a message.
Yes you will need to check your code the code needs to be optimized also if there is any web application you are using this will also need to be upgraded to latest security patches to avoid any such kind of DOS attack. In order to upgrade account to SDX plan the following upgrades have been done on the server.
1) Email System (pop3 + imap) Upgrade: http://www.jaguarpc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14124
2) MySQL upgrade from 4.0.x to 4.1.x: http://www.jaguarpc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14123
3) php security upgrade: php going cgi for security: http://www.jaguarpc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13601
there are a couple of issues with #2 and #3, if the host did a ‘default’ upgrade of MySQL you’re going to run into some database charset/collation problems (wordpress, and many other open source/mySQL php apps like UTF8 for charsets and encoding, the ‘default’ mySQL install falls back to latin1_swedish for charset/collation, so if the server isn’t properly configured (correct version of iconv/recode installed, etc) you’ll run into performance issues as MySQL tries to do charset conversions). and running php as cgi is also going to be a big performance hit over mod_php.
so, i don’t think you’re doing anything wrong exactly, it seems more like some of the changes the host made are causing the issues.
