Support » Plugin: Advanced Ads – Ad Manager & AdSense » Sequential ad rotation within a group

I am currently researching Ad management plugins for a client and have found your plugin, which looks fairly promising. Before I convince them to purchase the Pro version, however, I need to confirm a bit of crucial functionality.

Please see this screenshot of our desktop homepage mockup, with a sidebar of ads (highlighted in red) on the right: https://www.screencast.com/t/xDvhAj8IQ

My client would like to set up a group of ads like that on the sidebar, one ad per row, for up to 9 or 10 rows of ads. On page refresh, they would like the ads to shuffle in sequential order – if there are 9 ads total, then after refresh, #9 goes to the #1 spot, #1 goes to #2, #2 goes to #3, etc. Then on the next refresh, once again the final ad shifts to #1, and everything shifts down one once more.

Is this possible to do with your plugin? Would we need the Pro version in order to achieve this? Is this even feasible to shuffle ads like this or is it functionality that is generally not available out the box from most plugins? They would basically like to sell their ad space based on equal time given to all ads at the top spot and a guaranteed sequential re-ordering of ads on every page load.

Any help you could provide, or at least pointing me in the right direction, would be deeply appreciated.

    Hi coolhatwebdesign,

    thanks for reaching out.

Advanced Ads can handle the part of displaying a block of ads and shuffling them. The sequence part would need a bit of custom logic which is individual per site. Basically, we would need to shuffle the ads for each visitor and then deliver that as a fixed sequence. I have helped clients with something similar. You would need Advanced Ads Pro and at least frontend development and JavaScript skills to understand it. Let me know if you are up to it and then we can continue discussing the details in Customer Support. It might also make a good tutorial for others.

Btw., I have not seen a plugin that handles this out of the box.

    Best regards,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

    Thank you for your reply.

I am currently pitching your Pro plugin to my clients, I hope that they will reach a consensus soon and decide to buy it for our purposes, provided that we can get this specific functionality squared away. I will readily admit my JS skills are a bit basic, as I usually set up JS according to the specifics of my projects, so writing JS code from scratch isn’t necessarily my forte. However, I am always open to learn and figure out how to adapt something to the needs of the website.

Once my clients give a green light and purchase the plugin, I can start a new ticket on your Support portal and continue there. Feel free to close this thread if you like, otherwise you or I could return to this thread with our solution. I’m quite certain it will be useful for others, as I haven’t been able to find any solution for this functionality elsewhere.

    Hi coolhatwebdesign,

    thanks for your feedback.

Once you are working for a client who purchased one of our add-ons, we should continue the discussion in Customer Support, not the forum.

I am closing this thread. Please feel free to create a new one if you have questions around the basic plugin.

    Thanks,
    Thomas
