Searching Custom Taxonomy Selector

I have a custom taxonomy called “product_cat” and added a profile field. When a user is editing their buddypress profile on the front end, they can select this profile field and all the items in the list show up.

I added it as a “Form Field”. When on my BP profile Search page on the front end, when I select this item, the only thing that shows in the list is “product_cat” and not the actual items that are part of this custom taxonomy.

Is this a bug or how do I fix this? thanks
