Thanks for the good words and for your question.

You have raised an interesting issue regarding the “Terms Search” capability. In the current MLA version there is no syntax or option that will avoid matching a word that is a subset of another word, such as the example you gave.

I have a couple of ideas for correcting this oversight; I will work on it and post an update here when I have made progress. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I have uploaded a new MLA Development Version that adds an “exact” option to the “Terms Search” popup window and enhanced the logic to match quoted phrases only on word boundaries. If you check the “Exact” box, the phrase(s) you enter must match the entire term name. If you put quotes around a single-word or multi-word phrase the quoted phrase will only match on word boundaries.

For example, if you check “Exact” and enter “big man” you will match the terms “big” and “man” but not “big man” or “woman”. If you leave the box unchecked and enter ‘ “man” ‘ you will match “man” and “big man” but not “woman”.

Either the Exact option or the quoted word option will solve the issue you raised.

You can find step-by-step instructions for using the Development Version in this earlier topic:

    MLA errors when using plugin

It would be great if you can try searching on as many phrases as you can.

I will leave this topic unresolved until the new feature is released in the next MLA version. If you get a chance to try the Development Version, let me know if it meets your needs. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

Wow, David! That was an incredibly fast response, thank you so much. It works like a charm!

One other quick question. I didn’t actually expect such a quick response :-), so I changed a few tags to “Woman” as a workaround. Is it possible to just replace a single tag without impacting the other tags?

For example, say there a set of images has tags: Woman, XYZ, ABC. I just want to change Woman to Women without affecting the other tags.

    Again, thank you!

Thanks for your update with the good news.

You asked “Is it possible to just replace a single tag without impacting the other tags?

You can do this with the Media/Assistant Bulk Edit area:

    1. Find the images you want to change by filtering on the tag you want to remove, e.g., “Woman”. You can click on the tag name in the “Tags” column or use the Search Media text box and check the “Terms” box. Note: you don’t want to use the Terms Search popup window because that option is not “sticky”.
    2. Select the images you want to edit using the checkboxes to the left of the thumbnail.
    3. Select “Edit” from the Bulk Actions dropdown and click “Apply”.
    4. Enter the tag you want to add, e.g., “Women”. Make sure the “Add” radio button below the text box is selected.
    5. Click “Update” to add the new term, then click “Refresh” when the changes are complete.
    6. Select the images again, select “Edit” and “Apply”.
    7. Enter the tag you want to remove, e.g., “Woman”. Make sure the “Remove” radio button below the text box is selected.
    8. Click “Update” to remove the old term, then click “Refresh” when the changes are complete.

After the Refresh you may see an empty list, verifying that the old tag is removed. You can click Media/Assistant or one of the view links to get back to the default submenu table display.

Let me know if you have any problems or questions regarding the process.

I have released MLA version 2.10, which contains the “exact” option for the Terms Search popup window.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the new Terms Search features. Thanks for helping me with this new feature.
