• I’ve got a blog (password protected) that uses the standard wordpress search feature. The search works 4 out of 5 times, but sometimes the search form seems like it didn’t submit. As an example, I can search for “knee” and it will give me results with knee in there somewhere. Then I search for “foot” and the page refreshes..you think you’ll get results for “foot” but the page gives you the results for “knee” again. If you keep submitting the search button it will eventually work, but sometimes takes a number of tries.

Any clues about this?? Is it a timeout issue??

    Thanks for any help.

More on this. The search feature seems to fail as described above on large words. If I search for ‘Hymenolepidiae” it fails every time (when it should give at least one result. If I search for “food” it works 4 of 5 times. And when I mean fail, it fails in such that the page refreshes but the content does not change, nor the search term ( ?s= ) in the URL.

Not only does it fail as described when I search for a long word that it should find, it fails when I search for a small word that it won’t find. If I search for “iopl” it fails every time. I can’t get it to give no results. If I search for “water” it gives results.

I’ve tried deactiviating most plugins..no help.

    Even more on this.

I’ve found that if I bypass the search widget, and just enter the search words in the url and hit enter the search works every time.

?s=Hymenolepidiae gives me the correct results!

So, why does the search widget fail to pass the search term to the theme’s search page (search.php??)?? Or the search page fail to receive the search term?

Still more. I’m wondering if the size of the posts table has anything to do with this. The blog has about 150 posts that are very long. Lots of words to search. Could the search be timing out? Memory limit?
