Search Page

hi all,

quick question regarding creating a stand-alone search page – i found these instructions http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Search_Page but wasn’t sure if they are outdated.

does anyone know of a plug in or alt methods of creating a stand alone search page? i just need to have the search box appear in the middle of the page, not in a widget area.
