Thanks for the question. The [mla_term_list] shortcode generates a list of the terms defined in one or more taxonomies. There is no MLA function that supports a dropdown or other control populated by IPTC values embedded in the image (or PDF) files.
As I recall you included the 2#090 field in an earlier taxonomy mapping rule, but have since removed it. You could add it back in or create a new custom taxonomy for this purpose and assign the values as terms in the new taxonomy. If you want to pursue that solution, let me know.
I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it or email me if you have further questions about the topic or the custom taxonomy solution. Thanks for your continued interest in the plugin.
Good Morning David. Yep, I included the city information in the att. tags, but removed it from there in order to present a field with only the city information and not the entire tag list, which can be confusing.
If mla_term_list is not supporting IPTC as a drop down list, how do I create an new custom taxonomy. First I want do create a dropdown/checklist control with country, city information. Do I need to create a custom field and based on that a custom taxonomy? First thing seems to be simple, 2nd thing I’ve no idea. If you can give me some guidance?
Apart from this specific context I would be interested into other questions, though we can separate it for now. I can think of a hierarchy like “country -> city” and I can think of combined selection criteria like
country A OR Country B
city A OR city B
Many thanks, David. As always, I appreciate your work.
Okay, let me give it a try. I will play a bit with custom fields and custom taxonomies. I see there are a lot of plugins. Do you have a recommendation for such a plugin?
Hi David. a poor custom taxonomy looked to attachments is being created. I can see it in edit screen of the media and can enter some terms. These are searchable as well. But I can’t see the newly created tax in the iptc/exif screen. So I can’t make any assignment. Most likely I haven’t set it up properly.
??
Done. Wow. Thank you for the advice.
Thanks, Ernst Wilhelm
Thank you for the updates chronicling your progress to a solution along the lines I suggested. You are really growing your WordPress/MLA skills!
I will leave this topic resolved, but if you have any problems or further questions with it, post an update.
