Hi there. Currently building a website for customer. As such, link will remain private for now.

We can PM it if required.

Lovely plugin. Any questions, let us know. We are keen to stick with it. I have screen dumps – but there doesn’t seem to be a way of attaching them here.

    Initial info

    PHP version: 8.3

    WordPress version: 6.8.1 version.

    Motors plugin version: 1.4.79

    Pre-checks

Plugins deactivate one by one: No change in behaviour

All plugins deactivated: No change in behaviour

Recommended Theme: No change in behaviour

Using Desired theme: No change in behaviour

    Motors Plugin setup

    1. Listings page assigned to page.
    2. Default Desktop Layout for Listings: set grid
    3. Use WordPress search for listings: set off
    4. Filter by features: set on
    5. Custom fields each have within their filter settings, (Sort custom field options) Multiple filter selected and Show in filters selected.

    Notes

Some listings created with previous version and some with latest version.

Running non-pro (free) version as a starter for customer. (requirements at this stage are basic)

All listings have custom fields filled in. Noticed “Price” is not listed in “options” within the “listing manager” and instead has its own submenu. Prices filled in.

    Issue

    1. “Search Filter” does not work at all. Selecting any option within it causes screen to reload -but does not filter listings resulting in all listings remaining in view.
    2. “Search by keywords”, however, does work although a new issue was found:

Newly created custom field “Business Vehicles” with options of “none” and “commercial” only works on newly created listing and not on pre-existing listings. (despite them being setup to correctly select “none” or “commercial” for “Business Vehicles”)

    Additional Issues

Search Filter drop downs repeat first field. (ie. 4 x 4, 4 x 4, saloon, hatchback)

Search Filter has one drop down with drop down icon (arrow) on far right of field.

    Suspect cause

    1. Most likely user created error -hoping to resolve here.
    2. Or, Motors Plugin (1.4.79) recent update has broken all listing and custom fields.

I’m sure there will be more information required. By all means, let me know and I can get the answers for you.

Hi all. For those reading this. A restore back up from a previous version of Motors Plugin has resolved the issue.

So it is confirmed, the latest version of the Motors Plugin has broken the Search Feature and seems to have also impacted the listings by making existing listings fail to respond to newly created Custom Fields.

Suggest to others to avoid 1.4.79 until author releases new update to fix bugs.

    Hello,

    Thank you for reaching out.

The latest version of the Motors plugin is 1.4.8, please try to update the plugin to the latest version and recheck by temporarily deactivating extra third-party and caching plugins as well

    Best regards

Oh great! I guess you were aware of it since that’s quite a quick update from the one prior. We can take a look and see if it fixes it and let you know.

    Happy to help.

    Hi there,

Thank you for your speedy update, however, unfortunately the problem persists.

Exactly as above. All plugins except elementor was deactivated. (when you deactivate elementor it makes the site unusable)

    Cache cleared.

Keyword field works as above albeit with the problem of the one custom field issue. Also, “Sort by” works.

I think whatever you have done with the last two updates has broken something with the listings and the custom fields.

Could it be the update assumed the original custom fields structure that comes with the plugin by default?

I had deleted some and added some. Perhaps the update was expecting those default values to exist?

If so, perhaps a tweak to the update to accommodate changes with custom fields.

You can see the screen refresh, so it is going away and looking but not finding despite the listings set correctly and configured to the right custom fields.

This case could be due to multiple factors, try to resave the custom fields and make sure that you set proper inventory page in the Motors plugin settings once again. Also, try to check by temporarily downgrading php version to 8 version for testing purposes, and check by temporarily deactivating extra third-party and caching plugins as well. Moreover, for testing purposes, it is recommended to install the plugin into the clean fresh WordPress environment

    Hi there.

Thanks for the reply. It is working fine on the previous 2 versions. We have just stopped the plugin from updating.

With both the latest 2 versions we did the step by step process of removing plugins to try and resolve the issue.

We did clear cache (a procedure we do every time we make an update anyway)

PHP version we can’t downgrade to unfortunately.

The updates to the plugin where the only different factors in stopping it from working. There were no other inclusions (additional plugins, or changes to php).

I will have to see if I can get a copy of the site to another “play area” on the server and do some more testing and report. 1. to help you out and 2. for future updates to the site more generally. As things can fall behind.

Let us know if there will be any progress if the issue will be even in the completely separate/different WordPress environment

    Best regards
